Cruise-in Information
Please refer to the Mariner's Links section of our web site for charts of the San Leandro Bay and our harbor. The chart is also located in the Yachtsman Chart Book (Northern California, 6th Edition), page 20. There are times when at low tide, the channel is quite narrow, however, it is certainly navigable at most times.
You can reach us either: (1) from the West through the San Leandro Channel and under the Bay Farm Island Bridge. The Bay Farm Island Bridge operator is available for opening seven days a week from 8 am to 5 pm with the exception of Monday-Friday commute traffic; and (2) from the Oakland Estuary by way of three bridges, Park Street, Fernside (Miller Sweeney) and High Street. All three bridges may be opened any time 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with the exception also of M-F commute times. All you need to do as you approach the first bridge is to call them on VHF Channel 9 to request a bridge opening for all three bridges. As you approach, each bridge is opened. It’s a snap!
We can accommodate a mix of 8-12 boats between 20'-50' side-tied and rafted at our guest dock (C-D basin) and and a number more at randomly available slips elsewhere in the harbor. Aeolian Yacht Club monitors Channel 68 when there is a cruise in. When we know you are coming, we can be available to guide you in at any point.

In addition to Aeolian’s great hospitality – our volunteer member chefs serve great dinners and our volunteer member bar tenders are there to serve refreshments – there are wonderful walking paths along the shoreline of the Bay either to the west or to the east. Downtown Alameda can be reached by turning right out of the front driveway entrance to Aeolian, walking three blocks to Encinal Avenue, turning left and proceeding to Park Street. Turn right onto Park Street for a myriad of restaurants and stores. Distance is a little less than two miles.
Alameda has many fun attractions and hospitality for sailors on "shore leave" within walking, biking or short ride-share distances from the Aeolian, including the scenic two mile sand beach at South Shore, the USS Hornet Museum and Spirits Alley (booze tasting) at Alameda Point, several breweries and wineries, the Pacific Pinball Museum (an arcade of historic games you can play), and shops and dining across the Island City. For urgent boat supplies, Alameda features several marine retail stores including a large West Marine (with a rigging shop), Blue Pelican Chandlery, and the impressively expansive Svendson's Marine Supply at the Bay Marine Shipyard.
Heading southeast over the adjacent Bay Farm Island Bridge, the Aeolian is in walking distance to practical necessities at the Harbor Bay Landing Shopping Center with a Safeway, CVS and several restaurants. Fueling can be obtained at Ballena Isle Marina and the Jack London Square fuel dock. Check the web for current business hours.
Aeolian does not charge for guest berthing during cruise-ins. You are welcome to enjoy the Aeolian Clubhouse with restrooms, showers, washer and dryer, television and pool table. The front door and gate remain locked at all times. Should you leave the building, you will need a key to return. We will photocopy your driver’s license and a major credit card once you are given a key. If it is returned, the paperwork will be destroyed. Should it not be returned, your credit card will be charged $25.00 for the key.
We hope you enjoy your stay with us. If there are other questions, just let us know.
