In 2019, the Aeolian Yacht Club chartered a Sea Scout unit with the Golden Gate Area Council of the Boy Scouts America. Sea Scouting has been a staple of youth boating in the San Francisco Bay for almost 100 years. Ship 9, also known as the Sea Fox, is a coed program that develops confidence, responsibility, leadership, and practical skills in community teens (14 and up) through many aspects of boating, with Scouting values. Sea Scouts participate in skills competitions with other units, recreational water sports, social events, racing and navigation, boat construction and maintenance, long-distance sailing and power cruising, rank advancement, and community service. Sea Fox has two larger vessels; a coastal cruising ketch and a former U.S. Navy powerboat, a ski boat, plus a range of kayaks and SUPs.
In all things, safety and youth protection are paramount in a respectful environment. Club members are encouraged to help teach skills and support unit resource needs, but youth members and volunteers with Sea Scout Ship 9 do not need to be members of the Aeolian YC.
